Wesley Chapel Real Estate and Homes – History

Wesley Chapel began from a small rural campground and unofficially designated meeting place for people from miles around, this was known as McWhorter’s Campground and Cemetery.  Lack of water resulted in the campground being moved to a new location near a natural spring some miles away.  The McWhorter’s Campground and Cemetery remained abandoned until a church was constructed upon the site and was then called Wesley Chapel.

Now the church is known as Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.  It was named after John Wesley the originator of Methodism. The first Wesley Chapel structure bears little resemblance to today's church.  It was simply a temporary shelter made Liam's and tree branches.  The original Cemetery attach to the McWhorter's Campground still in use today and known as the Wesley Chapel Cemetery.  Maintenance of this centuries old cemetery is funded by individuals and donations. Wesley Chapel Village began as an agricultural community and still retains the values fostered via the early farming forefathers.

In 1896 there were recorded three active gold mines in the nearby Price Mill Area.  There are still homes that were constructed by some the original founding families of Wesley Chapel Village in the 1900s.  Most notable among these is the Price family complex which boasted a waterworks and light plant.  It is believed that the waterworks was probably a storage system for water supply by wells and that the light plant was probably a generator of some sort. Even so, it was a very respectable arrangement for the times.
